Mean (±SEM) muscle protein-bound L-[1-13C] phenylalanine enrichments (MPE) at 2 and 6 h following the ingestion of 20 g intrinsically L-[1-13C] phenylalanine-labeled casein with (PRO-CHO; n=12) or without (PRO; n=12) 40 g carbohydrate in healthy older men. No significant differences were observed between experiments. There was a tendency for greater muscle protein accretion in the CHO+PRO experiment during the early post-prandial period (P=0.13).
