Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) activity (panel A) and LPL mRNA levels (panel B). The F1B (solid) and Golden Syrian (shaded) hamsters were fed fish oil (FO), monounsaturated fatty acid rich (MUFA), and N6:N3 diets. The specified diets were fed for a period of four weeks. After a 14-hour fast, heparin was injected directly into the heart; blood was collected and assayed for LPL activity (panel A) as described in the materials and methods section. Total RNA was extracted from adipose tissue and LPL mRNA levels were measured (panel B) using specific primers as described under the materials and methods section. Means for a variable with a different letter are significantly different (p < 0.05) by two-way ANOVA and the Newman-Keuls post-hoc test.
