Role of mTORC1 and mTORC2 related signaling in adipose tissues and thermogenesis. The mTORC1 and mTORC2 related signaling pathways play multiple important roles in brown and beige adipocytes and thermogenesis. Current studies show that mTORC1 and mTORC2 related signaling involve in thermogenesis by regulating lipid metabolism (lipolysis and lipogenesis), thermogenic gene expression, and mitochondrial biogenesis and function. Adipose mTORC2 also controls glucose homeostasis by promoting glucose uptake and glycolysis. The triangular arrows suggest positive regulation and the blunt arrows suggest negative regulation. The red dashed lines indicate that both positive and negative roles are reported in different animal models and experimental systems.WAT: white adipose tissue; BAT: brown adipose tissue
