The effect of LC-SFA, increasing in carbon chain length, on β-cell viability. INS-1E (a) or EndoC-βH1 (b) cells were treated with vehicle [0 µM] or 500 μM of C15:0, C16:0, C17:0, C18:0 or C19:0 for 24 h or 72 h, respectively. EndoC-βH1 (c) or INS-1E (d) cells were exposed to either vehicle [0 µM], 125 µM, 250 µM or 500 µM C19:0 for 72 h or 24 h, respectively. Cell death was assessed using flow cytometry after staining with propidium iodide.
