VC + VD3 promotes recovery of DSS-induced colitis in guinea pigs. Except for the control group, DSS (2% w/v) was administered for 5 days to guinea pigs in the LVC + VD3 group, MVC + VD3 group, and HVC + VD3 group. a Body weight change; changes in body weight in each group of guinea pigs were compared to those in the same group on the 1st day. b Histologic images of guinea pig colon (hematoxylin and eosin, magnification × 200, scale bar represents 100 μm). a Control group; b LVC + VD3 group (Low-dose VC; 200 IU/(kg d) VD3 + 10 mg/(kg d)); c MVC + VD3 group (Middle-dose VC; 200 IU/(kg d) VD3 + 100 mg/(kg d)); d HVC + VD3 group (High-dose VC; 200 IU/(kg d) VD3 + 200 mg/(kg d)). Red arrows indicate goblet cells; yellow boxes indicates the epithelial crypt
